Ingersoll Gender Center 
Please contact Kevin Wang to discuss when to go to the Ingersoll Support Group. The requirement for participating in the support group is limited to one visit during your elective.

Seattle Children's Gender Clinic - One half day/week

Please contact Julian Garcia to discuss your schedule, orientation and other logistics for this portion of your elective.  Julian will contact you to fill out paperwork for your badge access and approval for the rotation.

Seattle Children's Gender Clinic: 4540 Sand Point Way NE Suite 256, Seattle, WA 98105

  • Please plan to start working by 8 am so it's best if you get there a bit early!

  • The day starts off with a multidisciplinary meeting to discuss the patients for the day working with social workers, researchers, nurses, behavioral health and faculty

  • You will work with Dr. Breland for 2 of the 4 weeks.  You will work with Dr. Divall (pediatric endocrinology) the other two weeks.

  • Plan to stay a bit past 12 pm as they have clinic all day.  Please try your best to attend didactics on Tuesday afternoons.

  • Surgical Half Day: Scrub in on one case

    • This will be a Thursday morning.  Please review your schedule early so that Liz Stahl can have you scheduled in the OR with Dr. Mangubat.

  • Site Specific Objectives

    • Review how to counsel patients on what to expect when referring to a top surgeon

    • Understand the presurgical requirements for top surgery

    • Health optimization prior to surgery

    • Review routine postoperative care and common complications after top surgery

Rotation Objectives

  1. Patient care

    • PC-1, PC-2 & PC-3: Learn to provide patient-centered and quality care by partnering with patients to counsel, inform, educate and support our LGBTQ patient population in areas of healthcare maintenance and other LGBTQ-related health needs

    • PC-5: Gain competence in performing appropriate counseling and prescribing of hormone therapy to meet the needs of our trans patient population

  2. Medical knowledge

    • MK-1 & MK-2: Demonstrate appropriate knowledge about LGBTQ healthcare relative to current level of training

  3. Systems-based practice

    • SBP-2: Emphasize patient safety following appropriate clinical guidelines and protocols, i.e. PrEP and hormone therapy for the trans* community

    • SBP-3: Advocates for individual and community health in regards to the LGBTQ community

  4. Practice-based learning & improvement

    • PBL-1 & PBL-2: Engage in self-directed learning and demonstrate abilities to acquire new skills in LGBTQ healthcare

  5. Professionalism

    • PROF-1: Completes a process of professionalism by reviewing and completing cultural humility training modules for working with the LGBTQ population

    • PROF-2 & PROF-3: Demonstrate compassion/respect/empathy towards LGBTQ patients and presents in a respectful & professional manner while attending all duties/responsibilities

  6. Communication

    • C-1, C-2 & C-3: Develop meaningful, therapeutic relationships with patients while communicating effectively with patients and the healthcare team
