FACULTY

Claire Thomson, M.D., M.P.H.    (She, Her, Hers)             Director, Obstetrics Fellowship

Claire Thomson grew up North Carolina and completed medical school and her MPH in Health Care and Prevention at the UNC-CH before heading north to Providence, Rhode Island to complete her residency at Brown Family Medicine. She so loved her time at Brown that she stayed on to complete her fellowship in Global and Maternal Child Health and Faculty Development, teaching and learning full-scope family medicine in Rhode Island and in Webuye, Kenya.

She joined Swedish First Hill in January 2018, and is thrilled to be part of such a dedicated and fun community of family med docs. Her clinical interests include perinatal care, global health and full-scope reproductive health; research interests include birth equity and FMOB mentorship. When not at work, she can be found chasing her toddler Kai, cooking with her husband Rob, hiking, reading novels, and paddleboarding.

Ye Ji Choi, MD (She, Her, Hers)         Faculty Physician - Issaquah

Ye Ji grew up in a border town in South Texas, where she picked up some basic Spanish. It is also where she attended medical school and the initial part of her OBGYN residency, until the program closure. She completed the rest of residency in Austin, TX. She desired to explore beyond Texas and found Washington state, where she joined Swedish Renton for her first attending job.

Clinically, she strives in creating a comfortable and supportive environment, ensuring personalized care for each patient’s unique needs. Outside of work, she can be found hiking or exploring the food scene with her husband.

Joe Breuner, M.D.    (He, Him, His)
Faculty Physician

Dr. Breuner decided to become a doctor because his grandfather was one and he watched the TV show M.A.S.H. when he was growing up. He majored in Government at Harvard and attended medical school at UCSD.

After residency at the University of Washington in Seattle, he spent a year caring for Afghan refugees in Pakistan.  Upon his return, he chose a career as a community clinic provider at the 45th St Clinic and served as medical director until 1999. He came to Swedish Family Medicine to teach in 2000 and really enjoys practicing and teaching medicine. He sees patients at Downtown Family Medicine, a small clinic caring for the underserved in downtown Seattle. His clinical interests are obstetrics, mental health, and procedural training.

In 2003, he started the obstetrics fellowship, which provides advanced training in operative obstetrics to family physicians. The fellowship has over forty graduates and more than two thirds are currently doing cesarean sections in diverse practice locations all across the country. The fellowship gives him a chance to work with incredibly talented and motivated family physicians, which he really enjoys.

He enjoys being part of the faculty and resident band called 'Plan B'; this doubles as a chance to play and write music, and a faculty balint.

He has three kids, who range in age from high school to college. They are rapidly growing beyond his ability to help them with math or look them in the eye.  His interests are rowing, running, golf, music, and snowboarding.

Kevin Wang, M.D.   (He, Him, His)
Faculty Physician

Kevin grew up in the suburbs of Detroit and attended Detroit's Wayne State University for his undergraduate and medical school education.  Although he initially promised himself to avoid any obstetrical care at any costs he ended up focusing on maternal care in his residency training at Oakwood Annapolis Family Medicine!  He eventually attended Swedish First Hill's OB Fellowship and headed back to his training program to help them start their OB Fellowship.  Eventually, Kevin made his way back to Seattle and became faculty in 2010.  His particular interests at the program include maternity care including offering cesarean deliveries, women’s health, reproductive health and LGBTQ medicine.

Kevin truly believes that Family Medicine is the premiere specialty where we can care for patients from birth to end of life.  We can truly bond with our patients and their families to provide them full scope care.  He is excited to work with such an amazing group of staff, faculty, fellows and, of course, residents.  Working with a residency program keeps him on his toes where he hopes to learn from our amazing residents as much as he tries to teach them!

Luchin Wong MD MPH   (She, Her, Hers) Faculty Emeritus

Luchin Wong is a Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) specialist who joined Swedish Maternal & Fetal Specialty Center in 2015. Luchin is originally from California and graduated from Stanford University. She attended Albert Einstein College of Medicine and received a Master of Public Health from Harvard School of Public Health with focuses on Quantitative Methods and Women, Gender and Health. She completed her Ob/Gyn residency at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center and her Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship at the University of Utah. Her research focus during fellowship was on preterm birth, an area she continues to be passionate about. What Luchin loves most about medicine is that it is not black and white, but rather multiple shades of grey. She believes her role as an MFM is to help patients navigate through the grey, to help them wade through test results, research, and family priorities to come to the most optimal choice for their families.

Luchin’s experience is unique in that she has worked closely with and trained FM Ob fellows in both her Ob/Gyn residency and Maternal Fetal Medicine fellowship. This experience has provided her with a distinct perspective as well as appreciation for skills acquired in an advanced Ob fellowship. She has been actively working with the Swedish First Hill Family Medicine Advanced Ob Fellowship to improve the curriculum and obstetric clinical experience since 2017. Luchin’s goals through her involvement in the fellowship are twofold. First, she seeks to provide a solid foundation on which clinical experience is built for the future academician. Second, she seeks to provide depth in obstetric management to allow for timely recognition of when patients need a higher level of care, training the fellows to anticipate patients’ needs upon such transfers and referrals. Luchin is proud of the work past fellows have done and is confident that their Ob patients are in good hands.
