Dr. Ochi is available to work with residents on Friday mornings.  Residents interested in this elective experience should communicate with Dr Ochi and their faculty advisor at least three months in advance of the first day of elective to establish a schedule.  

Goals: 

The resident will become more familiar with common primary care nephrology conditions, and understand the grading scale of renal failure and appropriate management at each level.

Objectives:

Medical Knowledge

        1.  The resident will be able to accurately designate the type and degree of renal impairment.

        2.  The resident will know how to manage patients at each level of renal impairment.

        3.  The resident will know which medications and conditions contribute to renal failure.

        4.  The resident will know which labs are commonly altered and how to manage electrolyte and fluid imbalance.

Patient Care:

        1.  The resident will be able to educate patients effectively on renal disease

        2.  The resident will be competent in effective use of consultant nephrologists

Interpersonal and Communication Skills:

        1.  The resident will be competent in communicating with consultants and patients

Professionalism:

        1.  Take initiative to prepare for nephrology rotation with reading materials outlined on the website.

        2.  Accept responsibility for continuity of care.
